Are you a sheep or sheepdog?
by yadda yadda 2 inas a jw you are taught to accept a black-and-white worldview that portrays people as either submissive sheep or rebellious goats.
you could be classified as either a sheep or dangerous wolf in sheep's clothing.. although it is good to be teachable and gentle in our human affairs, adopting the mental attitude of being a helpless, submissive, unquestioning sheep is not a desirable human trait at all.
in fact, it can be downright dangerous.. although the linked article below is mostly aimed for blokes the principles are equally applicable to everyone.. don't fall victim to group-think phenomenon such as 'the bystander effect' and 'normalcy bias'.

He is also starting to ask questions about why I dont attend the meetings anymore.
Good for him. It is ironic that your son is six and that there at least two yearbook examples of six-year olds that have been baptized -- which shows the society's position on the matter. That's awfully close to infant baptism, in my opinion.
I believe he's old enough, however, to under this 11 minute read (for grown-ups). At least, the concept of it all. Called The Great Watchtower Contradiction, it's mild enough for new ones to understand -- strong enough to give even the most seasoned JW serious pause.

Tell us a little about the museum. Anything there that can be misconstrued as idolism -- photographs of principals of old -- Russell, Rutherford, Father Miller (yes, he was referred to as Father as late as 1926 or so), Knorr, Franz, etc.

"Truth expiry date July 2017" -- this a Youtube joke?
by FatFreek 2005 ini just stumbled on this youtube video of some 1 minute in length.
the originator says he found this by chance when thumbing through the jan 1, 2012 watchtower magazine.
at the bottom of the last page the statement reads, "truth expiry date july 2017".

If someone has that issue of the Watchtower, posting a scan would be appreciated by all. At the very least, report on what you see -- or don't see to confirm what we see in the video -- or NOT. If not, the poster has done a great disservice to all. We don't need a hoax to show that Watchtower is a cult and is full of contradictions and lies.

At the bottom of the last page the statement reads, "truth expiry date July 2017". Shortly following his expose of that statement, a little window pops up which says, "this was not serious".
What do you make of it?
Lenps: you'll have to copy and paste the link in your browser field as my Chrome editor in JWN won't allow me to paste links.

Have you read C.T. Russell's controversial view of "new light"?
by Island Man in"if we were following a man undoubtedly it would be different with us; undoubtedly one human idea would contradict another and that which was light one or two or six years ago would be regarded as darkness now: but with god there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning, and so it is with truth; any knowledge or light coming from god must be like its author.
a new view of truth never can contradict a former truth.
new light never extinguishes older light, but adds to it.

"A new view of truth never can contradict a former truth."
That's a great C.T. Russell quote, one that most modern day JWs would agree with -- if they only knew.
That what makes "The Great Watchtower Contradiction" so effective. It exposes Watchtower by revealing the single most outrageous Watchtower contradiction that most of us (ex-JWs) have seen and that most JWs have not seen. It goes beyond the regular exposé by answering two vital questions: why they've contradicted themselves on this single issue and why most JWs are not even aware that it's happened. It does it from Watchtower's own publications and encourages the person to get their own WT Library CD for verification. It does it without arguing subjective doctrine, which, as you know is like talking to your cat. It's An 11 minute read, 19 minutes if you include all the supporting endnote references.

Q. Who was Watchtower's first president? (it was not CT Russell)
Q. Mormons formally disavowed their practice of multiple wives in the 1890's. JW's did in 1888, 1907, 1927, 1947. (it was 1947) See link.
Q. William Miller was the first prominent end-times predictor (Google "Millerites' Great Disappointment", 1844). Watchtower referred to him as "father Miller" as late as 1874, 1878, 1915, 1923, Never. (link)
Q. The following WT quotation is argueably a blatant lie: "At times explanations given by Jehovah’s visible organization have shown adjustments, seemingly to previous points of view. But this has not actually been the case." The Watchtower (WT), 1981, 12/1 p. 27) They have, in fact, reversed the teaching of Sodomite resurrection X times. [X = 2, 5, 7 (link)]
Len Miller (great, great, great grandson of William -- NOT)

Perry: However, the WT unashamedly claims that their writings are equal to the word of God:
Watchtower December 15, 2008, pg 28 –
“Our coming to know, the truth - the entire body of
Christian teachings that has become part of the
Bible - and adhering to it are essential for our
salvation”.That's a powerful accusation, Perry. You may be right -- but I'm not certain that quotation supports your claim.
A JW may simply respond by saying "the entire body of Christian teachings were, in fact, scripture compiled into the organized entity now known as the Bible.
